Subterranean Termites
Subterranean termites are extremely destructive. They build mud tubes from the soil into your home and then they burrow into the wood to obtain food. Any wood or cellulose-containing material constitutes termite food, and given time to do so, they’ll eat the wood until nothing is left but a shell. These termites typically swarm in Spring.
Drywood Termites
Drywood termites are also very destructive. They too will eat the wood until nothing is left but a shell. Drywood termites live above the ground and require no soil contact. Drywood termites typically swarm in the fall.
Varying weather conditions can cause termites to swarm at any time of the year and you might miss it. All termite species eat and destroy wood 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.................they never sleep.
How do you know you have a termite problem?
You can’t assume your home is termite-free just because you’ve never seen them – they only swarm a few times a year, and you might miss it!
You’re more likely to discover you have a termite problem by discovering the evidence they leave behind. If you encounter any of these signs, there’s a good chance termites are invading your home right now:
Piles of small termite wings near windows. (Both Species)
Of course, it’s possible you’ll miss every one of these signs as well – termites avoid light and air, so they build their colonies where you’re not likely to stumble upon them. The very best way to be sure you don’t have termites is to contact us and let us conduct a thorough and professional inspection of your home. We will also answer any other questions that you might have.
