What is Fascia?
Fascia board is a type of roof trim which has been frequently used on houses. It is attached to the exposed ends of rafters or the top of exterior walls to add a layer between the roof and the outside. Fascia board has a duel purpose by creating a smooth, even appearance on the edge of the roof, fascia board also protects the roof and the interior of the house from weather damage.
The fascia board also provides a point of attachment for the gutters of the house, along with the drain pipes, facilitating drainage from the roof and ensuring that water does not pool around the house during the rainy season.
Replacing Fascia
This area of the roof trim may require periodic repair or replacement. Fascia board can be susceptible to water damage, which leads to rot, and the damage can reach to the rafters and roofing materials. It may not be neccisary to replace the entire length of fascia, but ATC will. It is generally easier and better to replace the full lenth of the board, rather than cutting out and replacing just the dry-rotted section, which will acuatlly take longer and not look as good
ATC’s Method of Repair
We will start by removing the gutter by prying out the metal spikes or straps fastened to the roof. If the gutter is in good shape, we will always put it back up, and we always use the best practice methods to avoid bending it.
We pry off the fascia board along the eave and clean out any debris behind it. We give the boards a good poke with an awl or screwdriver to determine the level of damage and then replace any rotting, spongy, brittle or crumbling boards.
